“It was truly enjoyable to attend the North Atlantic Seafood Forum, held in Bergen, Norway earlier this month. This is one of the largest annual seafood conferences in the world,” says Steinþór Pálsson, CEO of Thor Salmon.
At the conference, which took place from 3–5 March, Steinþór presented Thor’s operations, the highly favourable conditions for land-based aquaculture in Þorlákshöfn, and the company’s plans to expand its land-based production to over 40,000 tonnes annually.
The North Atlantic Seafood Forum has been held annually since 2005, bringing together executives, investors, and other stakeholders in fisheries and aquaculture across the North Atlantic to learn about new developments, exchange knowledge, and strengthen ties.
The conference has been growing steadily, and this year again set an attendance record, with over 1,150 registered participants.
“There was a strong focus on salmon farming at the conference. It was very interesting to introduce Thor, our sustainability focus, and the technology behind our land-based farming,” Pálsson says.
In his presentation, Thor’s CEO introduced the exceptionally good conditions in Þorlákshöfn, as well as the current production status and ongoing developments. Thor’s farming operations utilise high-tech, closed systems that allow for precise control of all aspects of salmon production.
He also discussed the company’s approach to financing its expansion, emphasising that all phases are fully funded.
