Augljós kostur

Thor landeldi ehf. hefur hafið byggingu landeldisstöðvar við Þorlákshöfn til eldis á laxi. Stöðin verður staðsett á lóð félagsins á ströndinni um 2,5 km vestan við Þorlákshöfn. Lóð félagsins og svæðið við Þorlákshöfn henta einstaklega vel fyrir landeldi sökum mikils fersks vatns og gnægð hreins sjávar sem verður dælt úr borholum við sjávarsíðuna. Að félaginu standa reynslumiklir aðilar á ýmsum sviðum fiskeldis sem hafa samanlagt um 80 ára reynslu í eldi á laxfiskum.

Thor stefnir á 20.000 tonna framleiðslu í landeldi en eldisstöðin verður byggð upp í fjórum áföngum. Í fyrsta áfanga verður byggð seiðaeldisstöð fyrir framleiðslu á allt að 300 tonnum á ári af seiðum, í öðrum áfanga verður byggð áframeldisstöð fyrir árlega framleiðslu á 5.000 tonnum af laxi. Í þriðja áfanga er áformað að bæta við á aukalegum 7.500 tonnum á ári, samanlagt 12.500 tonn og í fjórða áfanga verður framleiðsluaukningin um 7.500 tonn og þá samanlagt 20.000 tonna framleiðslugeta á ári.
