The first batch of smolt from Thor Salmon’s farming facility in Þorlákshöfn was delivered at the beginning of this week. The delivery went smoothly, with over 330,000 smolt, each weighing around 100 grams, transported by truck to Kaldvík, the buyer.
The smolt facility is now fully operational, and the condition of the fish is very good. In the near future, well over one million additional smolt will be delivered to customers. Part of the stock will be transferred into the company’s own grow-out operations later this year.
“We consider it a significant milestone to deliver the first smolt from our facility in Þorlákshöfn, demonstrating that all our plans for development and growth are progressing as expected,” says Steinþór Pálsson, CEO of Thor Salmon.
Construction of the first phase of the company’s grow-out operation is underway. This phase has an annual production capacity of 5,000 tonnes and is fully financed. Fourteen tanks are being built for the grow-out system, with a total volume of around 52,000 cubic metres. The first tanks are scheduled to be operational this autumn.
Planned production expansion is staged, with each phase financed before further expansion begins. The current outlook is for annual production to exceed 40,000 tonnes.

The first delivery of smolts from Thor Salmon’s fully operational aquaculture facility took place on 11 May 2026.
