About THOR
Thor specialises in land‑based salmon farming and smolt production. The company’s operations are built on a long‑term vision: that Thor will be a clear choice in salmon farming, producing high‑quality salmon on land in a responsible and sustainable manner.
Every aspect of the operation is designed for long‑term development, with a strong emphasis on disciplined management, biological stability, and sustainability. In the company’s view, Iceland is ideally positioned to become a global leader in sustainable land‑based salmon farming.
Thor aims to grow through well‑defined, deliberate steps, laying the foundation for responsible, safe, and economically viable food production that delivers premium products, value‑adding services for customers, and solid returns for investors.
Construction of the company’s smolt facility began in July 2024, and less than a year later the first eggs entered the hatchery. Smolt transfer to the grow‑out phase is planned for late 2026, with the first harvest expected about a year later.
Thor Salmon was founded in 2022. In 2024–2025, the company received environmental approval and an operating licence for the development of its farming facility in Þorlákshöfn.
The licence from the Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority covers up to 13,150 tonnes of maximum biomass at the facility, forming the basis for an annual production of 20,000 tonnes.
